the essential
In partnership with the Aude Tourism Development Agency, the editorial staff of L'Indépendant draws up the assets that natural heritage offers for the development of sustainable tourism.

It is one of the undeniable assets for the development of sustainable tourism and which has attracted more and more fans since the health crisis. The Aude department has remarkable places where you can observe wildlife. Whether for the inhabitants themselves, day visitors or regular tourists, from East to West there are suitable spaces for viewing the richness of the biodiversity living in the territory. Aude thus brings together more than 300 animal species of heritage interest and is home to the largest number of nesting birds in , with more than 200 species recorded.

It is around this theme that the editorial staff of L'Indépendant chose to explore this biodiversity, these landscapes, and the actors who promote it in order to make it accessible to as many people as possible. So, on the advice of the Aude Tourist Development Agency, we went to meet Vincent Dumeunier, Project Manager for Sensitive Natural Areas at the Aude departmental council, who explains to us how the developments carried out serve to the attraction of the territory with tourists who can come from very far away in Europe to observe this fauna and flora which has flourished in the department. We also present to you the five most beautiful sites in Aude, in the heart of these sensitive natural spaces, where you can go to see this biodiversity. Finally, and like every two weeks since July 2024, L'Indépendant draws a portrait of one of the ambassadors of the new destination brand, L'Aude, l'Âme Sud so that they can tell us the role that They intend to play in order to make the treasures of Aude better known and their efforts to bring another idea of tourism and the economic development that results from it.
