Big chaos on the roads this Wednesday morning north of the Nantes metropolitan area where several kilometers of traffic jams formed. The cause was a large pileup involving seven cars and two heavy goods vehicles which occurred around 6:30 a.m. on the RN137 in the Rennes-Nantes direction at the Ragon carpooling area. The accident was caused by a diesel leak which made the roadway extremely slippery and led to more accidents.
Significant resources were deployed on site with the presence of around forty firefighters, Smur, police and agents from the Western Roads Department. One person was seriously injured in this pileup, a 63-year-old man who was transported to the Nantes University Hospital. Six other people were also slightly injured.
Traffic having been cut off on the axis where the pileup occurred, a diversion was put in place to allow motorists to reach the Nantes ring road.
