Corrèze: the number of veterinarians remains stable

The animal health plan was launched by the Corrèze departmental council.

Corrèze avoids veterinary abandonment. Almost three years after the launch by the departmental council of the animal health plan, the signals are rather green. In a rural department, where activity around livestock farming is significant, the number of veterinarians has remained stable. Despite retirements, there are still around a hundred of them.

Over five years, the plan provides for attractiveness and incentive measures to allow veterinarians to set up in Corrèze. It also provides professionals with a call management platform, SAVU 19.

For Arnaud Louche, veterinarian in Uzerche and treasurer of the Corrèze veterinary technical group, the results are positive.

The plan was positive, it actually made it possible to renew retiring veterinarians. This allows us to bring in young students for internships, and also to settle them in the territories, by offering them installation assistance. So with students who stay for five years beyond their internship. It's quite beneficial and I think we have a positive outcome of the operation. We'll see how it will be renewed after five years. But it is a fairly effective system and one that really puts Corrèze ahead of other departments.
