the trial of the violent attack on Yoane Wissa, in 2021, opens this Tuesday

Laetitia P.'s trial begins this Tuesday before the Morbihan Assize Court. This woman, born in 1988 in , is on trial for having attacked Yoane Wissa, the former Merlus scorer. During this evening in July 2021, she also tried to kidnap the player's child, aged one month. The next day, Laetitia P. kidnapped another little girl in and seriously injured the child's mother. Yoane Wissa's lawyer, Me Karim Morand-Lahouazi, speaks to RMC Sport, before the opening of the trial.

Me Karim Morand-Lahouazi, can we come back to the facts of July 2021 which concern your client Yoane Wissa. How did this evening go?

On the night of July 1 to 2, 2021, Madame Laetitia P. attempted to kidnap the daughter of Yoane Wissa, a player at the time for FC Lorient and who was in the process of being transferred to the Brentford club. This person entered the player's home in the middle of the night and threw a corrosive liquid in my client's eyes, which could have had much more serious consequences. He felt severe pain upon contact with this liquid. Fortunately, that was not the case. She wanted to take away Yoane Wissa's child. It was my client's intervention that allowed the accused to flee fairly quickly. The child was ultimately not kidnapped. It should still be remembered that a few hours before the events, this woman had come to ask the player for an autograph at his home.

Yoane Wissa had been arrested several days after this attack…

Yes, he had a break that we describe as ten days of ITT. But that's not why we return to training on the eleventh day. He had a fairly long recovery time. At the beginning of this story, it was very complicated for him. Today, he has physical after-effects and fortunately, he has not lost his sight. Thanks to her reaction, her daughter was not kidnapped.

Can we draw up a profile of the accused?

This is a person who, for me, did everything to try to keep her husband. At first, she invented that she had been pregnant and had lost the baby. She lied to her husband for months. With several justifications such as Covid and that she gave birth alone, without him. In fact, I think all this time she was hatching her plan to kidnap a mixed-race child. There is no debate. There is even premeditation with the purchase of this corrosive product in a supermarket near my client's home. She tried to kidnap a child from a mixed couple. That was his goal. In this story, there is also a whole part where the accused went through a PMI (maternal and child protection) agent in order to kidnap another child. She attacked another person with a highly flammable liquid, before setting the fire with a lighter. This person was burned, from memory, on almost 30% of his body.

How is Yoane Wissa doing today? What are his expectations for this trial?

He is waiting to have perhaps clearer explanations on this matter. He will also be present over two days to listen to the debates which begin this Tuesday until Friday. I know there are real after-effects of this attempted kidnapping and this attack. Yoane did everything to show that everything is fine. He also tries to be as efficient as possible in his daily activity. And today, the couple feels safe in England. They feel safe.
