dismissed, a complaint from the victim at the heart of the debates

Prolix just to give his last known address before his placement in pre-trial detention, Yunus Cosgun declared from his box that he was going “tell everything” : this native of Türkiye has been on trial since Monday January 20, 2025 before the Deux-Sèvres Assize Court meeting at the courthouse.

The fifty-year-old is accused of having beaten to death Patricia Gomit, a 51-year-old woman who was in the process of leaving him: the body of this mother of four daughters was discovered on the morning of Saturday June 11, 2022 in her property in the village from Cersay, to Val-en-Vignes, near Thouars.

The trial must be held until Wednesday January 22, 2025: five witnesses will be heard, as well as three experts. For these debates, the criminal jurisdiction is made up of three professional magistrates and six jurors, including five women. Three additional jurors were drawn at random due to the health situation and, thus, to compensate for a possible withdrawal.

For his first speech regarding the facts themselves, Yunus Cosgun denied, which he has done since his placement in police custody dating back to the afternoon of the discovery of the remains of his former partner: he mentioned a file enamelled with “bullshit”. “I have nothing to do with this story,” he added.

Already convicted thirteen times in the past, this eldest of five siblings faces life imprisonment.

The victim’s complaint “will be seen in detail”

Patricia Gomit had filed a complaint against him the month before his death for acts of aggravated violence and death threats: she had reported multiple arguments “violent” with her partner, whose consumption of large quantities of alcohol and cannabis she denounced.

The procedure was closed without further action, the offense being “insufficiently characterized”. “This complaint will be seen in detail this afternoon,” announced the president of the Deux-Sèvres Assize Court, Anne Haye. It will be after the personality of the accused.
