However, far from being bug-free, the latest 24H2 version of Windows 11 is now automatically pushed by Microsoft; for several days now, users of versions 22H2 and 23H2 have been automatically required to update this update.
Publicly available since last October, the Windows 11 24H2 update has caused a lot of discussion in recent months. Initially reserved for Copilot+ certified devices, it was subsequently offered as an optional download via Windows Update to all users of the Microsoft operating system, with a few exceptions. The publisher has just taken a new step in the deployment of this update by now requiring its installation on all compatible configurations.
A 24/2 update now mandatory despite its bugs
More precisely, versions 22H2 and 23H2 are now automatically offered this major update of Windows 11. Only devices managed in a professional environment by an IT department are exempt from this obligation, the application of updates must then be validated beforehand. Fortunately, the automatic application of this 24/2 update is also disabled on potentially incompatible configurations and on machines affected by certain known bugs. We think, for example, of certain Asus PCs which can suffer from crashes and blue screens with this latest version of Windows.
We may also regret Microsoft's decision to now impose the update 24H2while this version still suffers from quite a few problems (errors with the Auto HDR functionality as well as in a certain number of applications for webcams, bugs in File Explorer and with audio functionalities, or even recurring problems of performance in games), forcing the publisher to regularly pause its deployment in recent months.
As a reminder, the 22H2 version has no longer been supported since last October for the general public, while the Education, Business and IoT editions benefit from a reprieve until next October. The 23H2 version benefits from standard support until November this year. For its part, Windows 11 24H2 (“Hudson Valley” for short) will continue to receive updates until October 2026 for the classic editions (Home and Pro), and until October 2027 for the Education and Enterprise versions. (excluding long-term support service).
