A great outpouring of solidarity was organized by the Peasant Confederation around Valérie Rabbé for the resumption of activity at her Snail Farm.
On July 20, the village of Meures experienced a real catastrophe with the 'terrestrial tsunami' which swept away everything in a torrent of water and mud. The stricken village has gradually resumed the course of its life and the inhabitants have healed the wounds of this dramatic episode.
As with any natural disaster, the time has come for insurance companies to analyze the damage, and this is not never easy considering the damage. Valérie Rabbé from La Ferme aux escargots lost her entire farm.
His land was unfortunately on the course of the torrent which formed following bad weather which had been raging for several days. And yet, she had given without counting in this heliculture activity which allows snails to be raised and prepared for consumption.
A double punishment
After agricultural studies in order to carry out his project, Valérie invested in the necessary equipment to its activity and especially in the restitution of its know-how around educational sessions in schools and on site.
This passion for doing good and quality products is recognized by all, it is true that our peasant, as she likes to call herself, don't count your time to share your passion. But the elements that were unleashed ruined many years of work…
-“I lost everything in a few seconds under the violence of the precipitation. I have been operating the snail farm for almost twenty years, and I have never seen anything like this. To add insult to injury, we were in the phase of transformation which follows that of production Naturally I have not been able to sell my product and I am experiencing the double penalty, no more goods and no more infrastructure to produce them. explains Valérie Rabbé.
“This outpouring of generosity and the help provided allow me to resolutely regain hope and to consider a resumption of this activity which is so close to my heart”. Waiting the complex period of compensationValérie returned to part-time work to be able to live and provide for herself.
Peasant solidarity
The Peasant Confederation, whose goals are aid, mutual aid and support, has decided to organize two days of solidarity to help the heli farmer to clean and rehabilitate the infrastructure necessary for future operation. More than 40 volunteers responded to this call and began work on Tuesday January 14. The objective is to draw up an inventoryto check what is reusable to define the needs in terms of equipment and materials.
“Solidarity is not an empty word in our professions, particularly at the peasant confederation. As soon as we hear of problems among our colleagues, we make contact and we try, as far as possible, to help and support, not only on the material side but also psychologically”, confides Hippolyte Babouillard, outdoor poultry producer, and spokesperson for the peasant confederation.
They couldn't decently let Valérie deal with this disaster, “We have also decided to help it resume its activity as soon as possible. Time is running out because the production period will begin next spring “.
