Eve Hermann is there new sub-prefect of Figeac. She introduces herself and discusses her roadmap for the territory.
Actu-Lot: What is your background before your arrival in Figeac?
Eve Hermann: I am 49 years old, I am from Angers (Maine-et-Loire). I have a career in the sovereign civil service. I started at the Council of State in budget-related positions. Then I had the opportunity to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I left for South India to take up the position of general secretary of the IFP, then at the French Institute of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. After eight years, I returned to central administration at the Council of State in a position linked to human resources, managing the payroll. After five years in Paris, I wanted to move to the provinces to become sub-prefect. I am delighted to fulfill this role in Figeac.
Was this district in your choices?
I didn't do any geography on the choice of Figeac. But I was pleasantly surprised to arrive in the Lot, to see its gentleness, its quality of life. We are here in a dynamic territory. I see its strengths. Since my arrival, I have seen great solidarity, a sense of community, and very involved people. I can sense a very rich associative activity here.
-What are your priorities for this territory?
I will travel around the district in the footsteps of my predecessor, seeing most of the towns and villages in the area, to show that the State remains at their side. There are challenges to be met such as housing, drinking water, adaptation to climate change which is a crucial issue. I will make it a point of honor to support the prefect of the Lot on economic issues, Figeac being the reference sub-prefecture for “France 2030 and acceleration of industrial projects” for the Lot. Among the other challenges, there is also the development of employment, the reduction of pressure on health and school.
How were your first contacts with elected officials?
I received a very warm, very respectful welcome. I am very grateful to the elected officials who received me. But in their wishes, we sense concerns about future austerity measures. There are efforts to be made. We are always there to support projects in the region. And I realize that every small town has a project. We have very invested people there, despite the difficulties. I see very committed people in small villages. It is admirable the self-sacrifice of these people for the development of their territory.
