“He’s a very simple person”: Guillaume Canet filming in the Lot, a source of pride for the mayor of Saint-Céré

the essential
The Visitation Convent, in Saint-Céré, will host the filming of the next film by director and actor Guillaume Canet. For a month, the decor teams have been working on it. A real source of pride for the mayor of the town, Dominique Bizat.

That's all we talk about in Saint-Céré: Guillaume Canet is going to come and shoot his next film in the Visitation convent, a stone's throw from the city center. For a month, teams have been working to prepare the setting for this drama/thriller which could be called “Karma”. A source of pride for the mayor, Dominique Bizat. “It’s happening slowly,” she smiles. A relationship of trust has been established between the municipal team and the film team. “They did not arrive like cowboys in the city. We want to be facilitators for them. We help them with housing, with meals…”, indicates the mayor.

“At the start of the work, Guillaume Canet came to the visit. He had done scouting at the college, and all the young people were able to take selfies with him! He is a very simple person. It was he who asked to meet me, it made me happy, I was past the age of being impressed, but the girls in the commune were all impressed!”, says Dominique Bizat, a little amused. She continues: “For the record, I met him and introduced myself. And I said to him: And who are you? That made him laugh.”

A “common history” that is being created

An adventure that unites the inhabitants of the Lot. “At the time of the castings, there were people who waited three hours. They spoke together. Some saw Guillaume Canet, others rented their house for the teams… And some are going to shoot and others are occupying positions techniques. It creates a common history,” says the mayor.

And the elected official sees this filming in a positive light for the young Saint-Céréens. Dominique Bizat concludes: “We asked if a preview could be done here. And also if the students could go see the filming. The idea would be for the teams to explain their jobs… This would provide an opening to other jobs for our young people, to introduce them to the magic of cinema.”

A great shoot reminiscent of others

Back in 1972. The film “A Few Gentlemen Too Quiet” was filmed in Loubressac. On the bill, Jean Lefebvre, Henri Guybet, Paul Préboist and Michel Galabru. The synopsis: the inhabitants of Loubressac take a dim view of the installation of a group of hippies in their home. A murder is committed, the newcomers are blamed. Some citizens nevertheless decided to carry out an investigation… “In the evening, the film crews came to Saint-Céré. They set up in the Rex, a former cinema where the multipurpose room is now located. This is where they worked on rushes”, recalls Dominique Bizat. Many films have been filmed in the Lot. Recently, we can mention Dany Boon and Jérôme Commandeur who came to film in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie for the film “Les goats!”, directed by Fred Cavayé.
