The functionality does not require an internet connection, as it relies on the on-board NPU of Copilot+ PCs. However, the files must be saved locally on your computer, in indexed locations, to be found. Your files stored in the cloud are therefore not taken into account, even if they are displayed in your File Explorer. A future update will allow access to documents and photos stored through cloud storage platforms, Microsoft promises.
You can adjust the locations indexed on your PC or enable indexing of your entire PC in Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Search.
Supported file formats include .txt, .pdf, .docx, .doc, .rtf, .pptx, .ppt, .xls, .xlsx for documents and .jpg/.jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .ico for images. Compatible languages are French, Chinese, English, German, Japanese and Spanish.
-Initially, only Copilot+ PCs equipped with a Snapdragon chip will be able to benefit from this new feature. Machines with AMD and Intel processors will be available a little later.
