Clack. Hello everyone, see you again for a new video…” Perched on a rock at daybreak, Abdellah Boujnane triggers his smartphone placed on a small tripod. He is smiling, focused and takes the time to explain step by step the progress of his day's fishing.

At 30, he has become one of the most watched Youtubers in the field of recreational fishing. His channel Labarakabars is followed by 85,000 subscribers.

His story can be found in the documentary Littoral Fishing, shore and video to find on France.tv.

Winter and summer, Abdellah films himself, most of the time near Cap Fréhel, where he has settled with his partner and three children.

The concept is simple, Abdellah tells in action, with humor and education, his daily life as a “shore” fisherman, to refer to the seaside. The spots they unearth are sometimes difficult to access. He is passionate about recreational fishing, but also about climbing or kid jumping among the rocks.

Because Abdellah's “kif”, as he says himself, is to find secret places, spend the time you need enjoying nature and tracking down fish with a line, according to the rules of art:

You have to be able to have a respectful fight with the fish. Once it is captured, I film it of course and I take care to put it back in the water.”

Abdellah defines himself as a video content creator and an influencer, even if he doesn't really like the term. The advertisements generated by his videos on YouTube and the partnerships he has set up with fishing brands to promote the equipment he tests provide him with an income base. All this allows subscribers to be enlightened by a reference fisherman who also encounters his difficulties:

What pleases can be exceptional things like big fish. But in my videos, it is also the sessions that are not necessarily successful which are the most watched. Subscribers need to see me struggling to relate.

Far from the image of an “old man's” activity or sport, more and more young people are becoming interested in recreational fishing. In 2023, they even represented 30% of licensees. Abdellah's videos contribute to this craze.

Abdellah grew up in an island which, as he likes to point out, was not his favorite: in Île-de-France. Born to a Moroccan father and a Breton mother, he presents himself with humor as being a “100% Arab” Breton.

It was his grandfather, living near Port-Saint-Géran in Côtes-d'Armor, who introduced him to shore fishing when he was a child. It was about twenty years ago.

Since then, Abdellah has come a long way… including in the philosophy he developed with his shots:

With my grandfather, when we went fishing, what the sea gave us, we kept. But the generations are different, the quantities of fish are different. If we want to continue to practice this passion while limiting our impact, we must collect reasonably. I have gotten into the habit of only taking what is necessary. It's like a sort of gathering, if I need a few mackerel, a pollock or some spiders, it has to remain reasonable.”

By accompanying Abdellah in his daily life as a YouTuber, the documentary directed by Erwan Le Guillermic explores the ever-increasing ecological awareness among this new generation of fishermen.

Fishing, shore and video… it’s Sunday at 12:55 p.m. on France 3 and already available on France.tv
