PM fine particle concentrations10 and PM2,5 are decreasing today across the entire Bretillian territory. Tomorrow, Friday January 17, concentrations of fine PM particles2,5 are expected to increase again and concentrations could remain high over the weekend. Also, the information-recommendation procedure remains activated.
> The regulatory measures, applicable when the alert procedure for PM10 fine particles is triggered, will end from 8:00 p.m. this Thursday, January 16, 2025 in Ille-et-Vilaine.
> The information-recommendation procedure for PMs2,5 is maintained for the entire department of Ille-et-Vilaine on January 17, 2025. Pollution peaks can lead to the appearance or worsening of various symptoms (allergy, asthma, respiratory tract irritation, cardiopulmonary effects, etc.). In order to protect the population from the effects of the pollution peak and to reduce the sources of polluting emissions, the prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine makes the following recommendations:
For vulnerable or sensitive people
• In the event of respiratory or cardiac discomfort, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
• Choose short outings that require the least amount of effort.
• Avoid going out during the afternoon when the sun is at its peak.
• Consult your doctor to find out whether your medical treatment needs to be adapted if necessary.
• During peak periods, avoid areas with heavy road traffic.
For all
-• Reduce, or even postpone, intense physical and sporting activities, including competitions.
• Avoid going out during the afternoon when the sun is at its peak.
Usual ventilation and aeration practices should be maintained and the effects of this pollution should not be aggravated by exposure to additional irritating factors: tobacco smoke, use of solvents in indoor spaces, heating with wood, exposure to pollen in season, etc.
Behavioral recommendations
• Suspend the use of generators, open fireplaces, stoves or old inserts.
• Postpone maintenance and cleaning work with non-electric tools.
• Control the temperature of your home and workplace.
• For the record, open burning of waste is prohibited all year round. This practice is punishable. Take green waste to a recycling center where it can be recycled or reused.
• Favor carpooling, public transport, soft mobility.
• Drive smoothly and moderate your speed.
All of these measures aim to reduce the risks linked to this event and to reduce its duration and intensity.
If the episode were to intensify in the coming days, regulatory measures could again be put in place, such as the differentiated vehicle circulation system. Consider getting a Crit'Air sticker.
