Senegal: John Dramani Mahama visits Dakar | APAnews

The country of Teranga is the first destination of the Ghanaian president after his inauguration.

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama made a working visit to Senegal this Friday, January 17, 2025, marking his first official outing since his inauguration.

During his meeting with his counterpart Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye at the Presidential Palace, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

“The two Heads of State underlined the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation uniting Senegal and Ghana, supported by a convergence of views on democracy, good governance and the defense of fundamental rights,” specifies the press release from the Presidency.

At the heart of the discussions were several strategic sectors of cooperation, including hydrocarbons, defense, security, education, health and tourism.

The two leaders also addressed regional issues, particularly the security situation in the Sahel and within ECOWAS.

“This visit illustrates the common desire to strengthen an already solid partnership, in the service of the development and prosperity of their respective peoples,” underlines the Senegalese Presidency in its press release published on its Facebook page.

This summit meeting opens new perspectives for collaboration between Senegal and Ghana, two pillar countries of West African integration.

The Senegalese Presidency notably reaffirmed “its commitment to continuing close cooperation with Ghana in the spirit of solidarity and African integration. »
