This is the priority investigation of the Gard gendarmes since last Saturday… The attack on a mother on the health trail in the commune of Vergèze, Saturday January 11 at the end of the morning, requires extreme attention from the Justice and the Gendarmerie in charge of investigations. And for good reason, the authorities fear a possible risk of repeat offenses against another victim.

As a reminder last Saturday around 11 a.m., a mother in her forties was attacked and stabbed by an unknown person. Since then, a race against time has been initiated by investigators from the Nîmes Research Section with the aim of apprehending the author of this savage attack. The seriously injured jogger was immediately hospitalized and operated on.

In terms of investigations, numerous forensic samples were taken by criminal identification technicians from the Gard gendarmerie group. On the ground, the gendarmes of the group and the SR increased the collection of clues, but also testimonies from people present near the scene of the attack. Clothing and a profile were recorded by the soldiers who have been searching and searching ever since. A meticulous investigative work which ended up paying off because according to our information a suspect was arrested this Friday evening, this is the first custody in this criminal case opened for “attempted homicide”.

The suspect, aged around twenty, is currently being questioned by investigators from the Nîmes Research Section. He was arrested late Friday afternoon in a Gard commune near Vergèze, but at this stage we must be careful as always in such circumstances. This man's custody has only just begun and he remains of course presumed innocent.
