The 21 employees of the watch manufacturer STP in Glovelier, Jura, are suspended from the schedule. At the end of January, the consultation period will expire. The site will certainly be closed. For now, management is technically sticking to its “intent to cease operations.” A first restructuring took place in April 2024, which led to the elimination of a dozen workstations and the merger of the two entities active on the Glovelier site, STP (Swiss Technology Production) and STC (Swiss Technology Components ).
The teams were informed of the possible cessation of activities on January 7. The Jura Daily made the information public in an article published in its January 16 edition. The consultation will last two more weeks, but the outcome does not leave much doubt. The causes are multiple. Erkan Kurun, director of STP, mentions two main, closely related ones: “The overall economic situation and the difficulties of client brands.” To date, STP’s main client is Zodiac, a former manufacturer in Le Locle, bought by Fossil in 2001. The second is a licensed designer brand (its name is not communicated by the company, but it is well-known that Fossil produces Armani watches), whose watch sales are “in free fall”, hit hard by the crushing of Chinese and Asian demand.
