New shops, tourist office… Work planned in Chorges by 2026

A snack bar, a bicycle store as well as the premises of the Serre-Ponçon intercommunal tourist office must be opened no later than the beginning of 2026, at the entrance to Chorges. A public toilet will also be installed.

A little over a million and a half euros will be invested to build an intercommunal tourist office, two shops and a public toilet at the entrance to Chorges, in front of the Intermarché. A third is supported by the municipality, the rest by the community of municipalities of Serre-Ponçon. The work began at the end of 2024 and is expected, at the latest, at the beginning of 2026.

Between the station and the national 94, “at the gates of the lake”, as the mayor of Chorges describes it, the tourist office will be located at the entrance to the territory of Serre-Ponçon.

“Having the image of this territory through this building, welcoming the many people who pass on the main road, and those who pass through the station. It is an essential place in relation to the territory”, explains the mayor of Chorges, Christian Durand .

A need for small businesses

The tourist office offices of Embrun and Savines-le-Lac will be maintained, as well as the reception points in the other municipalities.

For more than three years, businesses have been considered by the municipality. “There was a small pizza caravan, we wanted to maintain this service. And then, bicycle sales, because there were none in the town, and because we are next to the station, there will be a cycle path in this location, it was ideal to put a cycle store here,” said the mayor.

The two businesses are run by the municipality, the intercommunal tourist office of Serre-Ponçon by the community of municipalities of Serre-Ponçon. The foundations were dug to subsequently lay the buildings.

After this work, the development of green spaces is planned by the municipality with children's games, as well as a picnic area to allow tourists and other visitors to take a break during their journey.
