385,738 e-visas issued in 2024, a success for Moroccan tourism

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its tourism sector, Morocco launched the electronic visa system in July 2022, an initiative that quickly bore fruit. According to the latest data covering the period from July 2022 to the end of 2024, this reform has significantly contributed to the attractiveness of the Kingdom, in particular thanks to the convenience and accessibility it offers to international travelers.

In a press release sent to Hespress FRthe Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy explained that since the launch of the electronic visa, Morocco has issued a total of 385,738 electronic visas until the end of 2024, of which 95% have been allocated for tourist purposes. According to the ministry, this figure demonstrates the central role of this system in facilitating tourist travel, thus offering travelers a simplified and rapid solution to discover the cultural and natural riches of the country.

Also, the trends observed in 2024 show strong dynamics in the issuance of electronic visas, with an increase of 6% compared to the previous year underlines the same source, noting that this growth testifies to the growing enthusiasm for this procedure, which considerably simplifies administrative formalities and facilitates access to the Kingdom. On average, 13,500 e-visas are granted each month, with a record peak recorded in November 2024, when 16,900 visas were issued, reveals the ministry.

The electronic visa initiative now affects visitors from 111 different nationalities, a clear sign of Morocco’s desire to diversify its tourism markets. Among the countries having benefited from this system, India stands out with 36,690 e-visas granted in 2024, recording an impressive increase of 52% compared to the previous year. Other countries, such as Pakistan (+100%), Nigeria (+36%), and Egypt (+45%), have also seen notable increases in the issuance of e-visas.

The introduction of the electronic visa is part of an ambitious tourism strategy aimed at meeting growing global demand for travel, explains the Ministry of Tourism. By offering a fully digitalized and simplified visa procedure, Morocco has strengthened its image as a modern and welcoming tourist destination. The positive trend observed in 2024 confirms that this initiative is perfectly aligned with the development objectives of Moroccan tourism.
