The Senate adopted the budget for the Overseas mission on Friday January 17. A budget up 6%, which provides a subsidy of 24 billion francs for New Caledonian communities.
24 billion francs, without conditions, to enable New Caledonian communities to begin reconstruction. “We have obtained a significant increase in the Overseas budget, which returns to its 2020 level,” welcomed Caledonian senator Georges Naturel on Friday morning.
This budget should make it possible to “support Mayotte, of course, but also New Caledonia. I proposed two amendments, and we were able to obtain a subsidy of practically 24 billion francs. This sum will first allow communities to rebuild schools, public facilities, etc., but also for the government of New Caledonia to begin reconstruction”explains Georges Naturel, who ensures that “this grant is not conditional on reforms.”
L’Assembly National will have to confirm this subsidy in the coming weeks for it to become definitive.
