WEF : The Graubünden cantonal police and the army are providing information this Friday on the security arrangements put in place for the World Economic Forum (WEF) which takes place in Davos from January 20 to 24. Up to 5,000 soldiers are mobilized for the event which brings together political and economic leaders each year. “Global leaders” are expected there. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the Graubünden resort in person, as will Argentine President Javier Milei, while Trump will speak by video. The conflict in the Middle East is a key theme of the WEF. Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa will be present in Davos.

ALPINE SKIING : The Lauberhorn races in Wengen open on Friday with the super-G, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Leader of the discipline and the general classification of the World Cup, Marco Odermatt will start favorite. The Nidwalden won the super-G in Wengen in 2022, organized for the first time in 28 years, and also reached the podium the following two years. The Norwegian Fredrik Möller, who won the last super-G in Bormio after two 4th places, promises to be his main opponent. The Italian Mattia Casse and the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr are also among the contenders for the podium, like the Bernese Franjo von Allmen.

DEATH: Switzerland’s oldest man, Albert Honegger, is no more. He would have been 107 years old on January 12, reports the Tages-Anzeiger. Since January 2024, he was therefore the oldest man living in Switzerland. Three days before his birthday, he fell asleep peacefully in the nursing home in Uster (ZH), his daughter told the newspaper. He would have reached a high age thanks to frequent walks. He also practiced moderation in his life, while also enjoying a daily glass of red wine. The funeral takes place in a small group. “My father outlived all his friends,” his daughter said.

BANQUE : The report of the parliamentary commission of inquiry (CEP) on the CS crisis provided new arguments to creditors of Additional Tier 1 (AT1) type loans. A working group was formed among the 3,000 complainants, reports the newspapers of the German-speaking company CH Media. He wants to demonstrate that the cancellation of the loans was part of the agreement between the authorities and UBS. The report describes the amortization of AT1 loans as “timely” and does not specify whether it was in accordance with the law.

AFTER: Swiss Post has filed an appeal against a decision of the Federal Administrative Court concerning its activity as a private company. She wants the body to look into these judgments, a spokesperson told the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. In November, the Federal Administrative Court ruled in favor of two companies which considered that the private economy activities of the Post Office were not authorized. The court referred the case to the Federal Postal Commission (Postcom). According to the yellow giant, Postcom is not competent in this area.
