buses stopped in Saint-Étienne and people left the road in Haute- this Thursday

You had to be very careful this Thursday morning while driving. The roads were very slippery in the and Haute-Loire.

Freezing rain had already wreaked havoc in Haute-Loire on Wednesday evening. They were still there this Thursday morning, making traffic very difficult in certain places, at least until 9 a.m.

In the Loire, the biggest disturbances were resolved and the icy yellow vigilance was lifted at 10 a.m.

In the Loire

Around thirty firefighters intervened

Inforoute 42 reported, at 6 a.m., “black ice and hoar frost from an altitude of 1,200 meters as well as snow and freezing fog from an altitude of 400 meters” on the secondary network.

Traffic conditions were difficult on the Pilat, Madeleine and Beaujolais mountains as well as in the Roannais plain.

But it was the south of the department which was the most affected, according to Sdis 42 (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service), which carried out around fifty interventions linked to climatic conditions, “without notable seriousness”.

Clashes in and around Saint-Étienne

The streets of Saint-Etienne were not spared from the ice. And pedestrians experienced the same difficulties as cars: it was sometimes difficult to stay upright on the sidewalks!

The city center, but also the surrounding neighborhoods, were difficult to pass in places, notably in Solaure, la Rivière, Michon, la Cotonne, la Métare, le Portail-Rouge, Terrenoire. Numerous collisions were reported by motorists on Facebook this Thursday morning.

The Saint-Etienne crown was also affected. A pileup even paralyzed the ring road at La Ricamarie in the early morning.

Stas lines stopped

Buses also have difficulty moving. Stas therefore interrupted several lines this Thursday morning.

At 9:30 a.m., lines 20 (Hauts-de-Terrenoire/Perrotière), 21 (Crêt de Montaud/Place des Pères), 24 (Dorian/Petites-Sœurs), 27 (Terrasse/Collège Parking ), 29 (place du Moulin/Châteaucreux Gare), 31 (Firminy Station/Les 3 Routes), 80 (Bellevue/Rochetaillée), 107 (Cimetière/Condamine, 108 (Cimetière/Quéret) and 109 (Cemetery/Bourg de Saint-Victor) were still interrupted.

Expressways also affected

But motorways and expressways were also affected: driving conditions were difficult on the RN88, from Saint-Chamond to Firminy, then further south, in Haute-Loire, from Pertuis to Cussac-sur-Loire.

In Haute-Loire

Difficulties in the east of the department

Haute-Loire also had its share of chaos this Thursday. According to Inforoute 43, the secondary network in the east of the department was particularly icy. We therefore had to be careful in the areas of Bas-en-Basset and Aurec-sur-Loire, Monistrol-sur-Loire and Saint-Romain-Lachalm, Saint-Just-Malmont, Dunières, Yssingeaux, Montfaucon, Tence, Le Chambon- sur-Lignon, Saint-Jeures, Retournac.

Around Puy-en-Velay too, the roads were slippery, particularly in the areas of Chaspuzac, Brives-Charensac, Saint-Julien-Chapteuil.

52 calls to the gendarmerie during the night

Many road trips were recorded last night in Haute-Loire. A heavy dairy truck fell into a ditch in Coubon and ended up in a meadow. The milk spilled and even froze! The driver was transported to Emile-Roux hospital.

Between midnight and 6 a.m., 52 calls were made to the gendarmerie.

School transport stopped

In Haute-Loire too, public transport was interrupted in places. This is particularly the case for school transport in Aurec-sur-Loire.
