The Arinthod media library hosted the opening of theexhibition by Christelle Fillotvisual artist. A significant event that highlights a artistic work deeply linked to the Jura landscapes and their recent history marked by the fires of summer 2022.
The exhibition presents both the artist's personal works and creations of school children from Aromas, Thoirette and Val Suran, the result of workshops led by Christelle Fillot.
The summer of 2022 was marked by a series of devastating fires in the southwest of Jura. Between August 10 and 18, 39 fire outbreaks ravaged 1,100 hectares of vegetation, an event which deeply marked Christelle Fillot, living in the heart of the massif.
This confrontation with a new climatic reality, usually associated with more southern regions, was the starting point of a unique artistic approach.
An artistic work born from the ashes
“When these large fires broke out in several forests just a few kilometers from my home, I was very sensitive to how the landscape was impacted», explains Christelle Fillot.
This experience triggered a reflection on the perception of landscapes and the link between man and nature.
The artist found an echo between the carbonaceous material of burnt wood and his favored use of charcoal and black and white pinhole photography.
Since 2022, the artist explores these charred places making drawings with the charred wood of vanished forests and pinhole photographs taken on site. His work bears witness to the transformation of the landscape, its resilience and its ability to be reborn.
Educational workshops at the heart of the approach
Alongside her personal work, Christelle Fillot wanted share your experience and its approach with the younger generations. She thus proposed workshops for studentsschools in Aromas, Thoirette and Val Suran, located in the area affected by the fires. These workshops were designed as a real exploring nature.
Plant collection and charcoal making
The children have participated in the collection of wooden brancheslearning to recognize the essences conducive to making charcoal . They then discovered the different stages of manufacturing this drawing tool.
Equipped with their charcoals, the children were then invited to choose a landscape, immerse themselves in it and express their feelings through drawing. The objective was to raise awareness of their relationship with the environmentnatural, the importance of knowing it, respecting it and adopting a balanced use of its resources.
