Mayotte is in mourning after the death of Doctor Léo, defender of the rights of people with disabilities. His commitment marked the island, notably through his challenge of traveling around Mayotte in a wheelchair.
Since 2017, Doctor Léo has become an emblematic figure. His tour of the island in a wheelchair aimed to highlight the difficult living conditions of disabled people in Mayotte, arousing admiration and solidarity, particularly within schools.
This initiative was crowned with success and earned him the special prize for sportsman of the year awarded by somapresse. A few months later he continued his challenge with the ascent of Mount Choungui, proving that nothing was impossible for him.
Originally from Hamjago, Doctor Léo has always defended the rights of people with disabilities, inspiring many people with his determination. His departure leaves an immense void in the hearts of the Mahorais, who remember him as a man determined to change mentalities. He died at the age of 35 in Sainte-Clotilde on Reunion Island.
MP Estelle Youssouffa praised his courage and dedication on her Facebook page.
