The Bourgeois Gentleman, already used many times Comédie-Française, is a comedy-ballet of Molière created in 1670, with music by Lully. This play features Monsieur Jourdain, a rich bourgeois whose obsession is to rise to the rank of nobility. Naive and vain, he surrounds himself with masters of arms, dance and philosophy to acquire aristocratic manners, but becomes the target of mockery and manipulation.
Through this ridiculous character, Molière criticizes with humor the flaws of social ascension and illusions of grandeur. The play, a satirical masterpiece mixing lively dialogues, absurd situations and musical interludes, is directed by Valérie Lesort et Christian Hecq and performed for the first time on June 18, 2021 at the French Comedy. Hailed by critics for several years, the famous piece is back in 2025! Tickets will be on sale on Thursday January 23 from 11 a.m. for the purchase of places at the 2024-2025 Card prices and on Tuesday January 28 from 11 a.m. for the purchase of places for all individual audiences and groups.
