In 2019, the elections to the chambers of agriculture went relatively unnoticed by the general public. The question was mainly addressed in the professional sphere concerned. Six years later, change of scenery: the subject is in the spotlight. And for good reason. For more than a year, the mobilizations of farmers and their movements of anger expressed throughout the national territory have been widely relayed and commented on. However, behind these demonstrations, the fierce battle that agricultural unions are engaged in, with a view to this crucial deadline, quickly emerged. Farmers are in fact invited to vote from January 15 to 31, to elect their representatives to the chambers of agriculture.

This electoral meeting, organized every six years, allows the five agricultural unions – the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA), the Young Farmers (JA), the Rural Coordination (CR), the Peasant Confederation and the Movement to defend family farmers – to measure their representativeness. It results in the distribution of powers within the 88 departmental chambers of agriculture and the 13 regional chambers. A key issue to guide French agricultural policy, but also to influence debates with the government and elected officials. In addition, their source of financing depends on their results at the polls.
