The response to this request will arrive this week, in the form of a letter from Maarten Verwey, director of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (Ecfin). This letter grants Belgium additional time, while emphasizing the deadline of the end of April: by then, our country must have finalized its reforms. In the event of failure, Belgium will be forced to follow a rigorous savings plan over four years, instead of being able to spread it over seven years.
The European Commission is thus increasing the pressure on Arizona negotiators.
