NHL: Pastrnak and Marchand enjoy perfect happiness; Point in penance

The Boston Bruins took their revenge on the Tampa Bay Lightning five days after their last meeting, winning 6-2 on Tuesday night.

Jeremy Swayman did an excellent job stopping 43 of the 45 shots he faced and the Bruins moved ahead of Tampa into third place in the Atlantic Division.

David Pastrnak had three points (1-2) in a second straight game; it was the fifth time it happened, but the first time since November 2023. He recorded a ninth season of at least 20 goals, tying Ray Bourque for fifth most in organization history.

Despite the rumors of conflict between him and Brad Marchand, the connection was nevertheless very present on the ice. Pastrnak connected with Marchand, who fired a shot into the top corner over Andrei Vasilevskiy’s blocker to make it 3-0 early in the second period. It was the 83rd time they had scored in the same match; Boston has only lost 12 of those games.

Pastrnak did it again 5 minutes later with his third point of the evening. He fell awkwardly while rushing to the net, but got up in time to take Pavel Zacha’s pass and score. It was a fourth goal on just nine shots.

Emil Lilleberg and Trent Frederic threw down the gloves a little later, with the last match in Tampa well remembered: Frederic wanted to take revenge on his teammate Mark Kastelic who had received a double check in the face from Lilleberg, before to come to fists. Lilleberg received two major penalties in the sequence in addition to a game misconduct, with no additional disciplinary action subsequently. Kastelic missed the next game with a lower body injury and was placed on injured reserve today.

Conor Geekie and Victor Hedman tried to revive the Lightning offensively, reducing the gap to 4-2 with 19 seconds left in the period.

In the final period, Andrew Peeke scored his first goal in a Bruins uniform in his second season in an empty net. Pavel Zacha also completed in a gaping cage, ending the match with three points as well.

Trent Frederic opened the scoring at 4:24 of the first period and Matthew Poitras collected an assist after being recalled from the American League this morning. Parker Wotherspoon gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead with his first career NHL goal in his 76th game.

The Lightning cracks down on Brayden Point

Lightning management took action against their forward Brayden Point who missed a team meeting.

The organization announced that the striker was going to be left out for this evening’s match, specifying that this was as a result of his absence for the match.

In 37 games this season, Point has 25 goals, a high among his teammates. His 48 points give him third place behind Nikita Kucherov (62) and Brandon Hagel (48).
