Inequalities have worsened in Morocco with inflation, says Nizar Baraka

Unlike the other leaders of the government majority parties, Nizar Baraka, secretary general of the PI, adopted a critical stance towards the economic and social situation in Morocco.

According to him, unemployment has reached alarming levels in recent years, rising, according to official statistics, to 21.3%, with even higher rates among young people (39.5%) and women ( 29.6%).

According to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia this Wednesday, January 15, Nizar Baraka spoke at a festival organized on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the presentation of the Independence Manifesto.

Also Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka affirmed that these rates reflect “a complex and multidimensional crisis that the country is going through, exacerbating the feeling of worry among young people and their loss of confidence in the future».

Al Ahdath Al Maghribia also relays the fact that in his remarks, Nizar Baraka affirmed that “we say it with frankness and responsibility: young people in our country have objective and legitimate reasons to feel worry about the future, and fears linked to uncertainty, which contributes to creating a complex crisis of confidence and multidimensional».

The secretary general of the PI attributes these problems to several factors, including unemployment and the rise in the cost of living, considering that despite the efforts that have been made “in terms of social coverage, social support, salary increases and income tax reductions, there is an erosion of the middle class and a worsening of social inequalities».

Furthermore, he argued, “the scarcity and precariousness of the jobs created have also limited the opportunities for social advancement for young people».

Still on the subject of young people, Nizar Baraka stressed that the government’s concerns are justified, “in the current context of uncertainties and crisis of confidence, due to worsening unemployment and the cost of living».

He therefore insisted on the need to “fight against the greed of speculators“, which he identified as the “responsible for the rise in food prices».

The Secretary General of the PI also welcomed the reforms carried out regarding social protection mechanisms, which today benefit four million families, as well as regarding “the extension of medical coverage and salary increases in several sectors of activity».

However, he recognizes that the problem of the collapse of the middle class persists in the current context.

Al Ahdath Al Maghribia also relays the words of Nizar Baraka on the “challenges» that digitization and digital poses and affirmed that the “rapid digitalization causes concerns for young Moroccans”, because although allowing “new opportunities, it also accentuates the gap between young people from developed countries and those from Morocco».

Digitization also represents “a threat to many current and future professions“, he said.

Regarding social networks, Nizar Baraka wanted to recall their “negative impact” Regarding “the spread of false information, the emergence of new models of dubious individual success, and lack of ethics» and wanted to remind “the importance of social advancement which would be based on moral values».

Al Ahdath Al Maghribia also indicates that regarding the reform of the Family Code, the general secretary of the PI welcomed the Royal Guidelines and reiterated the proposals of his party aimed at “preserve balance and family solidarity“, and also wanted to reaffirm the importance of “strengthen the Moroccan family as the basis of society, while guaranteeing justice for women and children».
