A world tour led at full speed

Setting off from Les Sables d'Olonne on November 10 in the company of 32 other competitors, Charlie Dalin wasted no time in taking command of the fleet aboard his latest generation Imoca monohull Macif Santé Prévoyance. The 40-year-old Norman quickly broke away to open up considerable gaps.

Only his compatriot Yoann Richomme managed, for a time, to hang on in his wake. But Charlie Dalin then stepped up the pace in the southern seas to set sail and secure a comfortable margin. A crossing carried out at a hellish pace with mind-blowing averages.

Crossing the finish line this Tuesday morning at 8:19 a.m. sharp, Charlie Dalin erased the previous race record established 4 years ago by Armel Le Cléac'h in 74 days. A monstrous time that many thought was unbeatable before the start.

But with his 64 days, 19 hours and 23 minutes, the skipper of Macif pushes the limits very far and is part of the legend of solo sailing for a long time to come. A great time made possible by very mild weather conditions but above all by unparalleled technical mastery.

It's a dream come true. I don't yet realize what I just accomplished.

Dalin, the silent sailor

Despite his low profile and his legendary discretion, Charlie Dalin is now one of the giants of ocean racing. The Ponts et Chaussées engineering student started the competition late, in 2009. But he has continued to progress since then, taking a string of places of honor.

4 years ago already, Charlie Dalin crossed the line in the Vendée Globe in the lead. But in the bonus game, he was overtaken in the final ranking by Yannick Bestaven. This time, no more frustration, his victory is indisputable and magnificent.

An unforgettable arrival in Les Sables d’Olonne

The conditions were perfect for a magical arrival in Les Sables. Surrounded by a flotilla of boats, Charlie Dalin crossed the line as the sun was just rising over the ocean. The public came in large numbers, despite the early hour, to cheer their hero.

The emotion was palpable on the pontoons, and tears appeared on many faces, starting with that of the winner. Charlie Dalin can savor his triumph. He will have plenty of time to realize later the magnitude of his feat. Here he is now among the greatest.
