Virginie Girod tells the story of Anne of Brittany (1477-1514), duchess, twice queen of France, who became the symbol of the fight for Brittany’s independence.
In the second episode of this new double story from At the Heart of History, Anne of Brittany experiences several bereavements, including the loss of the Dauphin, Charles-Orland. After the death of Charles VIII, she returned to her hometown, Nantes, where the castle of her ancestors reigned. Establishing herself at the head of the duchy, she must finally leave her lands in order to marry the new king, Louis XII. Anne de Bretagne then gave birth to two daughters, Claude and Renée de France. At the age of 36, the queen died exhausted. But the legend of the woman who became a symbol of Breton identity is only just beginning.
