A 44-year-old woman was stabbed from behind in a park in Vergèze (Gard) this Saturday January 11 late in the morning. The Nîmes prosecutor, Cécile Gensac, visited the site and held a press briefing this Sunday, January 12. An investigation into attempted intentional homicide has been opened.

The victim is seriously injured, but his condition is “stabilized” according to the Nîmes prosecutor on the social network X.

The perpetrator still on the run

Sixty gendarmes, a helicopter and a dog team were engaged this Saturday, January 11 around the park to try to find the attacker. A device lifted on Sunday. The suspect has still not been found.

Two witnesses witnessed the scene and according to the first elements of the investigation, the victim was running when the attacker appeared from behind. The 44-year-old woman fell while the individual was stabbing her in the neck and back.

In a press release, Cécile Gensac specifies that the identity of the attacker is still not known and that “the causes of the act are undetermined”. A call for witnesses was made by the Nîmes prosecutor: “any person with information that could be linked to the facts is invited to contact the operational center of the Gard gendarmerie on 04 66 38 50 00”.
