11th edition of the ”Bachikh” festival in Tangier, here we go

The 11th edition of the “Bachikh” festival, commemorating the Amazigh New Year, opened on Saturday in Tangier, under the theme “A quarter of a century of high royal solicitude towards the Amazigh”.

This cultural event celebrates the richness of Amazigh identity and heritage, and emphasizes the importance of their preservation and transmission to future generations.

The program for this three-day event includes several intellectual and cultural meetings, exhibitions of Amazigh products, an artistic exhibition and musical evenings.

This edition will also be marked by a conference on “literary writing and its role in promoting the Amazigh cultural heritage of the Senhaja tribes of Srayr”, and a workshop on “The linguistic and cultural revitalization of minority languages”.

Since the 2011 Constitution consecrated the official character of the Amazigh language, alongside Arabic, and the royal decision relating to the adoption of the character “Tifinagh” for the writing of the Amazigh language, we have witnessed the launch of an Amazigh channel, as well as the integration of the Amazigh language into the education system and the establishment of the Amazigh New Year as an official public holiday.
