A young man dies and another seriously injured in Moncton

A 23-year-old man died after leaving the road in Moncton.

The accident occurred Friday, around 1:35 a.m., at the intersection of Morton Avenue and Pascal-Poirier Street.

It is believed that the driver lost control of his vehicle, which left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The victim died of his injuries at the scene. A 19-year-old man, who was also in the vehicle, was taken to hospital. He was seriously injured, but there was no fear for his life.

A New Brunswick RCMP collision reconstructionist and an employee of the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office are collaborating on the investigation. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the man’s death.

Morton Avenue remained closed to traffic, between University Avenue and McLaughlin Drive, for approximately two hours.
