The second joint patrol between the Senegalese and Gambian armed forces concluded on Friday in Vélingara, in the Kolda region. This initiative, which is part of a collaborative security dynamic, has enabled troops from both nations to cooperate effectively along the shared border.
Colonel Théodore Adrien Sarr, commander of military zone number 6, welcomed this cross-border cooperation. According to him, these patrols not only strengthened security in the villages visited, but they also consolidated collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries. “Security is a responsibility shared between the defense forces and the populations,” he recalled, expressing his satisfaction with the results obtained.
These joint operations, beyond their security role, also made it possible to distribute health kits to local communities. This humanitarian dimension demonstrates the desire of the armed forces to be close to the populations they protect.
In his report, Colonel Sarr expressed the wish to extend these patrols to other branches of the defense and security forces of the two nations. Military officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to translating on the ground the vision of the highest Senegalese and Gambian authorities in terms of security cooperation.
