The French Council of Muslim Faith (CFCM) announced its intention to file a complaint against Florence Bergeaud-Blackler, researcher at the CNRS, for comments deemed defamatory made on social networks.
In a press release, the CFCM criticizes the researcher for a series of statements that it considers to be not only “defamatory”, but also marked by a “militant and conspiratorial posture”.
In a message published on her This study, taken up by numerous French media, highlighted a possible underestimate of 41% of the number of deaths in Gaza.
According to the CFCM, such comments are part of an “escalation” of provocations and repeated attacks against the organization and the French Muslim community.
The CFCM press release also cites several examples of Florence Bergeaud-Blackler’s positions, which it describes as problematic. Among them are accusations of widespread collusion between Muslims and the Muslim Brotherhood, criticism of French media and even comments described as “conspiracy” on institutions such as the UN or Pope Francis.
The Council goes so far as to denounce its proximity to controversial figures like Robert Spencer, known for his Islamophobic positions.
In response to these attacks, the CFCM affirms that “Muslims are neither a business nor a career springboard” and recalls that “defamatory comments are subject to the law”. While reaffirming his attachment to freedom of expression, he emphasizes that this cannot justify “hate speech” or accusations endangering institutions.
