The total value of building permits issued in Canada fell by about 6% in November, with the residential sector contributing the most to the decline.

The total value slipped by 739.5 million to 11.7 billion in November, down for a second consecutive month, Statistics Canada said Friday.
In constant dollars, the decrease was 5.8% compared to the previous month.
The total value of residential building permits fell 7.5% to 7.2 billion in November, with multi-family housing contributing the most to the decline, according to Statistics Canada.
Construction of 17,300 multi-family units and 4,700 single-family units was authorized in November, representing a 15% monthly decrease in the total number of units approved.
In Quebec, the total value of building permits increased by 2.9% in November compared to the previous month, to approximately 2.6 billion. The residential sector fell 2.2%, a second consecutive decline, while the non-residential sector increased 12.5%.
The non-residential sector in Quebec was stimulated by the growth of the industrial component – with a jump of 201.5 million – mainly attributable to construction projects of a cathode active materials factory in Bécancour and a large center of public transportation services in Quebec, indicated Statistics Canada.
