Last June, the Guardia Civil informed French law enforcement of the possible presence, in this Ile-de-France department, of a Spanish collector’s weapon. This is a golden pistol, decorated with drawings and writings. The item could be a gift given “in 1932 to the first president of the Second Republic of Spain, Niceto Alcala Zamora, who, following the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, went into exile and resided in France between 1936 and 1941”indicates the gendarmerie press release.

The investigation, carried out by the research section, led to the arrest of four people on Tuesday, “weapons collectors or regulars at shooting ranges or in the hunting world”specifies the document. The Spanish weapon was found during searches of the suspects’ homes where an entire arsenal and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition were also discovered.

The four accused will be presented to court in April, as part of an appearance on prior admission of guilt (a sort of French guilty plea which allows one to avoid a trial), indicated the prosecutor.
