On January 7, 2025, the United States provided the Senegal National Gendarmerie with state-of-the-art law enforcement equipment, including new night vision goggles, GPS devices, helmets, ballistic shields and equipment vital medical conditions. These cutting-edge tools, worth more than $750,000 (more than 450 million CFA francs), will support the Gendarmerie in monitoring and securing Senegal’s national borders.
The handover ceremony, which took place at the Thiès Regional Tactical Training Center, highlights the United States’ long-standing support of Senegal’s efforts to protect its borders and its citizens. The delivery of this equipment is part of a four-year program in which the United States has partnered with Senegalese security forces to strengthen our collective capacity to identify and respond to threats, improve border security, and combat illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons and human beings. Through joint training and resource-sharing initiatives, our collaboration strengthens national and regional security and underscores the deep and growing security partnership between the United States and Senegal.
The United States Ambassador to Senegal, Michael Raynor, said: “The United States is proud to support Senegal’s efforts to protect its borders by providing modern, high-quality equipment that will strengthen the operational capabilities of the Gendarmerie national. Our continued partnership to strengthen border security reflects our ongoing commitment to the security and well-being of the Senegalese people.”
