The debt of the national company Air Senegal is estimated at more than 100 billion CFA francs. At least that is what the Director General of the national airline company says.
According to him, today, Air Senegal’s regulation is 100%, that is. In other words, flights are not canceled. “Out of eight planes that made up the company’s fleet, there were only four machines running. The other four remained on the ground. And today, we have managed to send these machines to approved maintenance centers in Europe to be able to put them back in place. The network which was disproportionate was refocused on Africa. And we have maintained a single relationship in Europe which is France. The loss-making lines have all been suspended. I want to talk about New York. I want to talk about Southern Europe. Lyon, Marseille, Barcelona…” he declared.
During this interview with APS, the general director of the national airline Tidiane Ndiaye said that the debt of the national airline Air Senegal is estimated at more than 100 billion CFA francs, while its capital is estimated at 40 billion FCFA. He adds that he found a regularity of flights of 35%.
Mr. Tidiane Ndiaye, however, assured that measures were underway to redress the situation and strengthen the economic viability of the company. These revelations could reignite the debate on the management of public airlines in Africa, often faced with budgetary constraints and increased competition.
