The Geneva Industrial Services (SIG) will maintain fixed annual prices for photovoltaic electricity produced by independent producers, despite a slight downward adjustment of 11% in 2025. Objective: to offer them better profitability conditions and encourage development of solar power.

Solar panels are multiplying on roofs. In 2024, more than 1000 new installations will be installed in the canton. To maintain this dynamic, individuals must be able to resell their electricity to distributors at attractive prices, notes SIG on Thursday in a press release.

The next federal regulation risks changing the situation. From 2026, distributors will be able to offer take-back prices aligned with electricity market prices adapted every three months.

Several distributors have already anticipated these new measures at the risk of making the profitability of their installation more uncertain for producers. SIG does not wish to take this route, but has decided to continue to offer unique prices valid all year round and not dependent on the vagaries of market prices.

For 2025, the recovery tariff for small installations amounts to 14.3 cents per kilowatt hour. It falls by 11.4% compared to 2024, but still remains significantly higher than the prices of previous years. This decline corresponds to that of the price of electricity that SIG sells to its customers at the regulated rate, specifies the company.

Note that SIG’s electricity prices and remuneration remain more attractive than those of distributors in other large cities in the country, notably Lausanne and Basel. The public authority is also maintaining its solar premium in 2025, in addition to the federal subsidy.
