He was used to electric wires
The reason he ended up on the road? A fireworks display near his pasture. Its owner is convinced, this is the cause of its escape. “He was in an electrified pasture. He crashed into the fence because he was scared. We had just changed the fence not even a month ago. Everything had been checked, even the electrical voltage. He must have been very scared to push the wires.” The donkey Romeo had been used to electric wires for 15 years, wires he respected. “He always lived on the prairie with a thread, he understood straight away.”
On New Year’s Eve, a fireworks display was set off near its pasture and the animal was certainly frightened. He was alone in his pasture, his girlfriend who lived there with him died recently. And it was a local resident who found him in the ditch. Headlight debris scattered around him showed that he had been hit by a motorist… who did not ask for his remains and left him in the shoulder after having probably dragged him for several meters. “I wasn’t at homeexplains Romeo’s owner. But my father, in the morning, did not see Romeo in the meadow. He saw the firefighters in the distance, he went to see what was happening.” And he recognized Romeo on the side of the road.
Today Thursday, Hugo is sad to have lost his donkey, “he was like family”. Also angry with this motorist who hit him and then didn’t stop. The donkey was taken to Sart-Tilman, the bill will follow.
