After the cold temperatures of the last few days, Environment Canada indicates that the Côte-Nord, Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie regions will be affected by an episode of freezing rain this weekend.
A first system will reach Baie-Comeau and Caniapiscau: up to 2 millimeters of freezing rain could fall Saturday evening and overnight. Environment Canada advises that roads, sidewalks and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
The second system will hit Eastern Quebec on Sunday evening and will bring larger quantities of freezing rain, in the order of 2 to 5 millimeters. It will last until Monday, explains meteorologist Kathleen Ménard-Leclerc.
Subsequently, the mercury could rise by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius and 20 to 40 millimeters of rain will fall from Monday to Tuesday. The North Shore will be the region which will receive the largest quantities.
The conditions will therefore not be met to encourage the practice of winter activities during New Year’s Day, says Kathleen Ménard-Leclerc.
She also reminds citizens to be attentive to road conditions and to monitor warning bulletins which could vary during the weekend.
