Fishing landings down 29% at the end of November

Landings of coastal and artisanal fishing at the port of Laâyoune recorded a drop of 29% during the first eleven months of the current year, amounting to 176,620 Tonnes (T), against 250,205 T during the same period. a year ago, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

The market value of these products also fell by 8% at the end of last November to stand at more than 1.44 billion dirhams (billion dirhams), compared to more than 1.57 billion dirhams at the same period of 2023. , specifies the ONP in its latest report on statistics on coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco.

By species, landings of pelagic fish at the port of Laâyoune fell by 38% during the first eleven of 2024, to stand at 137,558 T (564.77 MDH, -27%), compared to 220,299 T (770.43 MDH, -27%), ) at the same period of 2023.

Catches of white fish increased by 36% to stand at 29,553 T (337.60 MDH, +33%) against 21,738 T (254.05 MDH).

Cephalopod landings, for their part, increased by 17% to 9,052 T (532.09 MDH, +1%), compared to 7,726 T (529.22 MDH).

Regarding shellfish catches, they increased by 4% at the end of November to amount to 457 T (more than 15.2 MDH) compared to 441 T (more than 16.7 MDH).

At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 1,233,568 T at the end of November 2024, down 1% compared to the same period a year earlier. In value, these landings recorded an increase of 6% to nearly 10 billion dirhams.
