Dakar, Dec 26 (APS) – The Senegal Football Coaches Union (SEFS), denouncing “the verbal and physical violence” suffered by some of its members in stadiums, calls for “appropriate measures” to be taken to ensure security of the actors concerned.
In a press release signed by its president, Badara Sarr, the Senegal Football Coaches Union said it condemned “the verbal and physical violence” suffered by some of its members from spectators on the sidelines of competitions.
He asks the presidents of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), the Senegalese Professional Football League (LFSP) and the Amateur Football League (LFA) to “take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of coaches and players before and after the matches to prevent the irreparable from happening.”
Monday evening, at the end of the match between US Gorée and Jaraaf, as part of the 9th day of Ligue 1 football, Jaraaf supporters, disappointed by the tactical choices of their club’s coach, Malick Daff, threw stones at the technician and uttered insults against him. They then invaded the stadium, forcing the police to use tear gas grenades.
This incident occurred in a context marked in recent weeks by the repeated threats to which certain technicians have been subjected by supporters frustrated by the results of their team.
The coach of the US sportive de Gorée (Ligue 1), Aly Male, was the first to react to this situation, believing that the violence shown by the supporters is having a negative impact on the progress of national competitions. .
The president of the Senegal Football Coaches Union, Badara Sarr, for his part, says he condemns “with energy this gratuitous violence” against the coaches, while reiterating his “unwavering support” for them.
