: thefts, noise, crowds… Sources of nuisance, businesses in the 10th arrondissement forced to close at 8 p.m.

The noise got the better of certain brands that were visibly too popular at night. Until January 20, 2025, certain businesses in the 10th arrondissement of are forced to close their doors between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. by prefectural order, according to a decree published on December 19. The police headquarters highlights too many nuisances, particularly on Boulevard de and in Rue du Château d’Eau.

Several residents complained in particular about “the increase in street sales and fences, nighttime noise, consumption and sale of drugs, aggressive behavior towards passers-by and residents, and incivility.” various”.

Late closings of certain businesses would encourage the formation of small groups of people, sometimes drunk, causing nuisance. According to the police headquarters, the 10th arrondissement police station has received more than 400 emails and reports since the start of 2024. Between January and October, nearly 1,000 incidents were noted by the police, including 151 related to narcotics, 488 thefts and receiving stolen goods, 122 voluntary violence, and 21 for concealed work.

Consequently, the authorities have taken the decision to force businesses open to the public in the following area to close between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.: all stores on Boulevard de Strasbourg, rue du Château d’Eau in its portion between the streets of Faubourg Saint-Denis and Faubourg Saint-Martin. Not affected are “drinking establishments, restaurants, hotels, pharmacies and cultural establishments”, specifies the Paris police headquarters.
