The USB type-C port will be mandatory for iPhones from December 28 and for many devices!

Many new electronic equipment will need to include a USB Type-C port in order to be compatible with the universal charger. The obligation will apply from December 28, 2024.

The obligation to include a USB type-C port (NF EN IEC 62680-1-2 and 62680-1-3 standards) applies to electronic equipment that can be recharged using wired charging.

It will apply from December 28, 2024 to:

– Portable mobile phones

– Tablets

– Digital cameras

– Headphones

– Headsets

– Portable video game consoles

– Portable speakers (speakers, etc.)

– Digital e-readers

– Keyboards

– Mouse

– Portable navigation systems (GPS: Global positioning system or geo-positioning by satellite, etc.)

– In-ear headphones.

The obligation will apply from April 28, 2026 to laptops. Please note: Electronic equipment that is not charged with a wired device (e.g. induction charging) is not subject to the obligation.

When this equipment is offered for sale, a charging device must not be systematically provided. The customer should be able to choose whether or not they want to purchase a charging device along with their equipment.

A pictogram indicating the presence or absence of the charging device must be printed on the packaging or affixed to the packaging in the form of a sticker. This pictogram is indicated in article 3 of a decree available on Légifrance.

When the equipment is made available to consumers and other users, the pictogram is displayed in a visible and legible manner and, in the case of distance selling, near the price indication.
