Integrated into a global project between the municipalities of the south of the Caen plain and the heart of the urban area, this path makes it possible to secure the crossing of pedestrians and cyclists by reducing the width of the lane, an alternative to a road axis where traffic speed and car traffic are important.

It is also part of the logic of the Urban Travel Plan and the future Local Intermunicipal Urban Planning Plan Habitat and Mobility (PLUi-HM). Objectives: develop the use of bicycles.

“The ultimate objective is to relieve congestion in Caen with a global approach to work on soft mobility, carpooling, as well as public transport,” summarizes Nicolas Joyau, president of the Caen-la-Mer urban community.

These cycle paths complete the alternative mobility offer to the car with a view to the establishment of the future Low Emission Mobility Zone (ZFE-m) on 1is January 2025 on the territory of the urban community.

This development represents a total cost of €443,000. “The State, within the framework of the green fund, wants to support local communities in their investments for the ecological transition, recalls Stéphane Sinagoga, secretary general of the Calvados prefecture. In this specific case, the State financial assistance represents 40% of the total cost. It complements the 40% funding from the Department and the 20% covered by the urban community. »
