From Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11 January 2025, the Occitanie region, in partnership with the Press Club, made the strong choice to pay tribute to the victims of Charlie Hebdo : “This is an opportunity to reaffirm our attachment to freedom of speechthe founding value of our Republic, and to bring to life the memory of those who died in its name,” explains Carole Delgathe president of the Region who wanted to organize this tribute throughout the territory.

“Bringing the Charlie spirit to life: this week of tributes is a real advocacy for freedom of expression and freedom of the press “, she continues, announcing (see program below) exhibitions, conferences and meetings: “This week of tributes also means continuing, at all costs, the fight against racism, anti-Semitism , fundamentalism, conspiracy. We do not forget the victims of Montrouge and of Hyper hide. It means showing no weakness in the face of the enemies of the Republic and those who distort religions to make them tools of oppression.”
From January 7 to 11, this “Charlie for Life” week will be a highlight of exchange and artistic expression in Occitania. The program:
Tuesday January 7:
-11:30 a.m.: Collection in the Regional Hotels in Toulouse and Montpellier and in all regional buildings;
-6 p.m.: Launch of the exhibition “Selected drawings from Border line”, on the square in front of the Hôtel de Région in Montpellier, organized in partnership with the Press Club;
-6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Launch of projections retracing, in images and drawings, the week of January 7 to 11, 2015 at the two Regional Hotels. Part 1: “Attack against the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo: Defending freedom of the press” and performance by MAN, cartoonist for the newspaper “Midi Libre”, whose drawings will be produced and projected live on the facade of the Hôtel de Montpellier region.
Wednesday January 8:
-12 p.m.: Opening of the “Border line” exhibition, at Gare Saint-Roch, organized in partnership with the Press Club and the SNCF;
-4:12 p.m.: Departure of the train from Montpellier station to Toulouse with the cartoonists Sié, Gab, Willis from Tunis and Agnès Marie on board, to raise awareness of caricature among the general public. Organized in partnership with the Press Club;
-6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Projections retracing, in images and drawings, the week of January 7 to 11, 2015 at the two Regional Hotels: Part 1 “Attack against Charlie Hebdo: Defending freedom of the press” + Part 2: “Assassination by Clarissa Jean-Philippe, police officer: Committing to the Values of the Republic”.
Thursday January 9:
-6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Projections retracing, in images and drawings, the week of January 7 to 11, 2015 at the two Regional Hotels. Part 1 “Attack against Charlie Hebdo: Defending freedom of the press” + Part 2: “Assassination of C. Jean-Philippe, police officer: Committing to the Values of the Republic” + Part 3 “Hyper hide attack : Fight against anti-Semitism”.
Friday January 10:
-6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Projections retracing, in images and drawings, the week of January 7 to 11, 2015 at the two Regional Hotels. Part 1 “Attack against Charlie Hebdo: Defending freedom of the press” + Part 2: “Assassination of C. Jean-Philippe, police officer: Committing to the Values of the Republic” + Part 3 “Hyper hide attack : Fight against anti-Semitism” + Part 4: “Major popular marches: Stay united”, and performance by Xavier Gorce, designer and illustrator, whose drawings will be produced and projected live on the Toulouse Regional Hall.
-6 p.m.: Launch of the “Charlie’s Humor” exhibition on the square in front of the Hôtel de Région in Toulouse, organized in conjunction with the “Draw, Create, Liberté” association, followed by a large gathering in tribute to Charlie Hebdo and victims of terrorism, organized at the Hôtel de Région in Toulouse in the presence of members of the Charlie Hebdo editorial staff. Hosted by Etienne Gernelle, director of the weekly Le Point.
Saturday January 11:
-6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Projections retracing, in images and drawings, the week of January 7 to 11, 2015 at the two Regional Hotels. Part 1 “Attack against Charlie Hebdo: Defending freedom of the press” + Part 2: “Assassination of C. Jean-Philippe, police officer: Committing to the Values of the Republic” + Part 3 “Hyper hide attack : Fight against anti-Semitism” + Part 4: “Major popular marches: Stay united”.
