Mr. Trudeau wished “a new year full of light and hope” to the country’s population in a video shared on social networks.
He emphasized that the holiday season is a time of year to slow down, rest and spend time with loved ones.
“It’s also time to put down our phones, put politics aside, even if there’s always someone in the family who really wants to talk about it, and focus on what really matters,” argued the prime minister.
He also invited Canadians to check in on members of their entourage “who have not had it easy this year.”
“For you, the holidays may be synonymous with large family gatherings, festive meals, gifts and rejoicing. But it may also be a very difficult time for you, if you are grieving, worried, or alone, it may be the hardest time of the year and the loneliest,” he said. .
He stressed that Christmas is a time for Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ “and to think about his story which embodies goodness, forgiveness and faith.”
Finally, Mr. Trudeau thanked everyone who works this Christmas Day.
“Thank you to our brave first responders, our Armed Forces members, health care and essential workers, and everyone who is at work right now so others can be safe at home,” he said. he asserted.
