Ligue 1: Things are heating up between and its supporters

Anger is brewing among supporters. In a press release published on its Facebook page, the “Butte Paillade 91”, an ultra-historical group of the MHSC, took issue with the management of the club and its sporting performances which were considered disastrous. Culmination of their exasperation, the humiliating elimination in the Coupe de last Saturday against Le Puy Foot (0-4). “Yet another humiliation” which adds to a nightmarish season. Currently bottom of Ligue 1 with only nine points in fifteen days, Montpellier is sinking into a worrying negative spiral.

But what particularly ignited the ultras were the words of captain Téji Savanier. Asked by a supporter who asked him if being last in Ligue 1 affected him, the midfielder replied: “When you earn 210,000 euros per month, no”. Words deemed unacceptable by the supporters, who see them as “the last straw” in a situation oscillating according to them “between the ridiculous and the pitiful”.

The press release calls for a “serious reaction” from managers, players and staff. They point in particular to Laurent Nicollin, president of the club, while evoking the memory of his father Louis Nicollin, an emblematic figure of the MHSC who died in 2017, believing that his legacy is “today flouted”. Faced with this open crisis, the MHSC will have to quickly redress the situation, otherwise the divide with its supporters will widen further.
