Snow. Météo warns of a risk of avalanches in the Vosges massif

Be careful if you are in the Vosges massif : Tuesday December 24, Météo issued a warning bulletin of snow slides until this Wednesday at 6 p.m.

“In the mountains, the quantities of snow observed can cause snow slides or avalanches on steep slopes,” warns Météo France.

The departments concerned are Vosgesthe Territory of the Haute-Saône and the Haut-Rhin.

Up to 50 cm of snow at more than 1,000 meters altitude

Tuesday, December 24 at 10 a.m., the snow depths observed were of the order of ” 20 to 30 centimeters around 900 meters of altitude and 30 to 50 centimeterslocally more, above 1,000 meters of altitude”, according to Météo France.

“The main thing happened on Sunday afternoon and during the night from Sunday to Monday. Since Monday morning, between 5 and 10 centimeters of additional snow have often fallen,” continues Météo France in its bulletin.

Due to the strong wind, cornices may have formed, “increasing the risk of flows. »

A slight mild spell expected this Wednesday

After the snowfall, a slight warmth is expected this Wednesday, December 25. It “will have the effect of compacting the snow cover”, estimates Météo France.

The risk of snow slides or avalanches “should therefore decrease gradually. »
